The number of civilian deaths due to clashes between Sudanese military forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia has risen to 387.
The figure is reported by the non-governmental Sudan Doctors Union (SDU). The number of wounded civilians has risen to 1928, the SDU also reports. The figures do not include the dead and wounded among combatants.
The SDU has said that “68 per cent of the hospitals in areas suffering the clashes are not functioning”.
“59 out of 86 primary hospitals in the capital, Khartoum, and various provinces are no longer functioning; 25 hospitals are either fully or partially functioning”, the union reports. All of those 25 hospitals are in danger of closure due to the lack of medical staff, supplies, water and electricity, said the union.
19 hospitals nationally were totally evacuated; 15 have been directly bombed.
Armed forces have commandeered various public health institutions, the SDU reports. Blood banks have been seized by armed forces, it adds.
Clashes between the two forces, who are former allies, began on 15 April.
