In an ongoing military escalation in Lebanon, Israeli air strikes on several towns in the Tyre district in the south of the country have resulted in the deaths of 12 individuals from ambulance teams and civil defense volunteers.
The attack targeting the town of “Deir Qanoun Ras Al Ain” in Tyre led to the deaths of 6 volunteers from the “Islamic Mission Scouts” (which conducts ambulance and civil defense work), in addition to a medic from the “Islamic Health Authority”, while another airstrike resulted in the deaths of 5 Scouts members in the town of Hanaouay.
According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, the attacks also resulted in injuries to 3 other individuals from the “Islamic Mission Scouts” in the town of Ain Baal.
Furthermore, the bombing resulted in the death of a civilian and the injury of 12 others in the town of Deir Qanoun Ras Al Ain.
The Ministry of Health affirmed in a statement that these attacks constitute a “war crime” continuing against medical and rescue teams, highlighting that these actions are a blatant violation of international humanitarian laws.
In the same context, the Lebanese Ministry of Health confirmed that the death toll from the Israeli occupation’s airstrikes on the Baalbek district in eastern Lebanon has risen to 20 dead and 14 injured.
The attack occurred on the tenth day of the Israeli escalation in the region, targeting the town of Al-Kanisa and other towns such as Hadath, Al-Jamaliyya, and Nabi Sheet, resulting in the deaths and injuries of several civilians.
The Israeli occupation’s airstrikes on Baalbek are part of a broader campaign against Lebanese areas where clashes with “Hezbollah” have intensified, leading to mass displacement and severe humanitarian consequences in the region.
The international community faces widespread criticism for failing to take deterrent measures against the targeting of medical teams and humanitarian facilities in Lebanon, reflecting a serious deterioration in the enforcement of international humanitarian laws.
This military escalation by the Israeli occupation comes within the context of expanding the aggression on Lebanon since September 23, 2023, resulting in the deaths of more than 3,000 people and the injury of over 13,000 others, in addition to the displacement of around 1.4 million Lebanese.
It is worth noting that the occupation has recently intensified its targeting of medical and rescue teams, despite all international conventions, including the Geneva Conventions, prohibiting the targeting of civilians and medical teams during armed conflicts, while the international community remains unable to take concrete steps to protect civilians, hospitals, and humanitarian teams in Lebanon and Palestine.
