Abu Hawash is suffering from various health conditions, and is wheelchair-bound.
Detained in an Israeli occupation prison, Palestinian prisoner Hisham Abu Hawash continues his hunger strike for the 107th consecutive day, in protest against his “administrative detention”, or detention without trial.
A session held today, Wednesday 1 December, at the occupation’s military appeals tribunal will consider an appeal submitted by Hawash against a previous decision confirming his administrative detention.
Hawash suffers from various health conditions, though the Israeli prisons administration continues to refuse to transfer him to a hospital, where his symptoms would be addressed. The authorities have refused to let him appear in court, given his condition.
Hawash is emaciated and lethargic. He frequently loses consciousness and frequently vomits. He is potassium deficient, and suffers severe pain in the liver and heart. He is unable to sleep due to severe pain throughout his body. Hawash is confined to a wheelchair.
He is married, and a father of five children. He has been detained since October 2020.
A six-month administrative detention order was issued against him, being the longest period legally allowed. He has been detained on several occasions, and has spent eight years in total in occupation prisons.
According to the Palestinian human rights organization, of the 4,650 Palestinian prisoners currently held in occupation prisons, approximately 500 are administrative detainees.
