The number of children who have died due to malnutrition at Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza has risen to 15.
According to Dr. Ashraf al-Qudra, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Health in Gaza, 15 children have lost their lives as a result of malnutrition and dehydration at the hospital.
Al-Qudra stated, “We fear for the lives of 6 children suffering from malnutrition and dehydration in the intensive care unit at Kamal Adwan Hospital due to the power outage, lack of oxygen, and limited medical resources.”
He added that the Israeli occupation forces are waging a new war on the people of Gaza, a war of starvation, noting that the number of deaths due to starvation is increasing, especially among children, and there are several children in critical condition in danger of dying from hunger.
He pointed out that the occupation obstructs the efforts of all humanitarian organizations and hinders requests from international organizations to provide assistance, confirming that “the healthcare system in northern Gaza is completely incapacitated, especially after the shutdown of Kamal Adwan Hospital.”
UNICEF recently warned that the sharp rise in malnutrition among children, pregnant women, and lactating mothers in Gaza poses a “serious threat” to their health, especially with the ongoing devastating war.
It is worth noting that the right to food is guaranteed under the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights, which requires the international community and humanitarian institutions to work together to provide essential food aid to the people of Gaza.
Since October 7th, the Israeli occupation army has been waging a destructive war on the Gaza Strip, resulting in tens of thousands of deaths and injuries, massive humanitarian conditions, and causing a major health and environmental catastrophe due to the destruction of vital facilities and sewage overflow in wide areas.
At the start of the war, the occupation cut off all electricity, water, fuel, and food supplies to the residents of the Gaza Strip, and bombed bakeries, factories, shops, water stations, and tanks, destroying the infrastructure.
The Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip constitutes a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and human rights, as it exposes the lives and properties of civilians to extreme danger and causes them immense suffering, necessitating urgent and decisive intervention from the international community to stop the aggression and protect civilians in the region.
