Amid the catastrophic conditions faced by Palestinians, international concern is growing regarding the situation of prisoners in Israeli occupation prisons, where reports of serious violations by the occupying authorities against Palestinian detainees, including systematic torture, medical neglect, and starvation, are increasing.
In this context, Palestinian prisoners Mohammed Abdul Rahman Hweishel Idris (35 years old) and Muath Khalid Mohammed Rayyan (31 years old) from Gaza died in Israeli occupation prisons.
Mohammed Idris, who did not have any health issues before his arrest on August 25, 2024, last Friday, died in “Ofer” prison west of Ramallah.
As for Muath Rayyan, who was suffering from complete paralysis before his arrest on October 21, 2024, it was revealed that he died on November 2, 2024, without the Israeli authorities disclosing the location of his death.
With the deaths of Idris and Rayyan, the number of Palestinian prisoners who have died since the beginning of the Israeli war on October 7, 2023, has risen to 47.
Testimonies from released prisoners confirm the existence of systematic torture practices, medical neglect, and deliberate starvation inside Israeli prisons, reflecting a blatant violation of all humanitarian standards and international laws.
The suffering of Palestinian prisoners extends beyond physical torture to depriving them of necessary medical treatment, exacerbating the suffering of the sick and injured among them.
Testimonies have also documented the use of psychological and physical humiliation methods against prisoners in harsh and inhumane detention conditions, especially in Israeli army camps that hold detainees from Gaza.
The continuation of these violations poses a blatant challenge to international law, necessitating urgent international action to hold the occupation leaders accountable and impose deterrent sanctions to stop these violations.
It is worth noting that justice requires putting an end to such crimes and ensuring the protection of Palestinian prisoners, starting with providing international monitoring of their conditions in prisons, leading to their release and cessation of all forms of torture and mistreatment.
