Yesterday, Friday 10 December, one Palestinian man was killed, and 10 others were wounded after Israeli occupation army forces opened fire on a peaceful protest.
The protest was one of several rallies held across the north of the occupied West Bank against Israeli settlements there.
According to a statement from the Palestinian Ministry of Health, one Palestinian died, and several were seriously wounded by live bullets fire by Israeli troops in the town of Beita, south of Nablus, in the north of the West Bank.
The Palestinian who lost his life is 31-year-old Jamil Abu Ayyash. After being hit in the head, Abu Ayyash was transferred to Rafidia Hospital in Nablus, where he died, as was later announced.
With Abu Ayyash’s killing, the number of Palestinian deaths since the start, in May this year, of peaceful protests against the Israeli settlement of Jabal Sabih (Mount Sabih), near Beita, has risen to nine. They include eight people from Beita itself, and one from the nearby village of Yatma.
Over the past several months, Beita has seen daily peaceful protests against Israeli control over Palestinian-owned lands on Jabal Sabih.
Non-governmental Israeli data indicates that there are approximately 666,000 Israeli settlers across 145 settlements and 140 non-licensed outposts across the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, or al-Quds as it is known in Arabic.
