Israel continued to commit new massacres against displacement camps in the Rafah Governorate, south of the Gaza Strip, which resulted in the killing of 72 displaced Palestinians in the last 48 hours.
According to the government media office (GMO), “the Israeli occupation forces carried out 3 crimes, resulted in the killing of 72 displaced people over the past 48 hours.”
The three massacres took place when “Israeli aircraft bombed displacement tents in areas claimed to be safe zones in the northwest of Rafah Governorate.”
According to the GMO, this “confirms the occupation’s insistence on continuing to commit the crime of genocide with premeditation,” and carries a “clear challenge from it to the criminal and international courts, as well as a message to all countries of the world that the killing and extermination of Palestinian civilians continues.”
The Israeli occupation escalated its attack on Rafah Governorate instead of ceasing after the International Court of Justice issued orders last Friday ordering the occupation to stop its attacks on Rafah. An airstrike on the displacement tents in the Tal Al-Sultan area northwest of Rafah on Sunday resulted in 45 Palestinian deaths and numerous injuries, the majority of them being children and women. This was despite the fact that the area was one that the occupation army claimed was “safe zone.”
Despite the international condemnation of the “massacre,” the Israeli army renewed its targeting of the Tal al-Sultan area at dawn on Tuesday. As a result, 7 Palestinians were killed and many others were injured.
On Tuesday, 21 Palestinians were killed and several others were injured in a “new massacre” committed in the displacement camp in the Al-Mawasi area, west of Rafah.
Since October 7, the Israeli occupation army has waged a devastating war on the Gaza Strip, resulting in an enormous humanitarian catastrophe and a major health and environmental disaster.
The Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip constitutes a blatant violation of international humanitarian and human rights law as it exposes civilians’ lives to extreme danger, which requires immediate international intervention.
The international community must force the Israeli occupation forces to abide by international human rights and humanitarian laws, primarily protecting the rights and lives of civilians, prohibiting their targeting and preserving their safety, and holding the Israeli leaders accountable for committing war crimes in the Gaza Strip.
