Dozens of mourners suffered different injuries and bruises after the Israeli occupation police forces brutally attacked the funeral of the Palestinian iconic journalist Shireen Abu Akleh in the French hospital.
The Israeli occupation police used stun grenades, tear gas and batons in assaulting the mourners, preventing them from carrying Abu Akleh’s coffin on foot.
Eyewitnesses reported that Abu Akleh’s casket was about to fall to the ground after the mourners lose balance due to the Israeli assault.
Since the early morning hours, Israeli occupation police forces deployed in large numbers throughout the occupied Jerusalem ahead of the funeral procession.
Earlier Wednesday, the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) shot and killed Al Jazeera’s journalist Shireen Abu Akleh while covering Israeli raids into Jenin city in the West Bank.
The Palestinian health ministry has announced her death after being hit by a bullet to the head.
Another Palestinian journalist was also shot by a live bullet in the back, the health ministry said.
Al Jazeera’s Palestine Bureau Chief, Walid Al Omari, affirmed that Abu Akleh was shot dead by an Israeli sniper despite wearing a vest with ‘PRESS’ insignia.
