Hozaifa Aboul Fotouh, son of the prominent Egyptian politician, head of the Strong Egypt Party, Abdelmoneim Aboul Fotouh, stressed that his father suffered a new health setback in Tora prison.
He shared a Facebook post saying that he could not meet his father during the last visit, adding: “I knew that my father was suffering a health setback due to the very high temperatures, but I have no information about its nature, or how he is now.”
Last April, Aboul Fotouh had a heart attack after a prison officer assaulted him.
He also suffered many angina attacks and was only given tablets for treatment.
Moreover, Aboul Fotouh suffers from several chronic diseases, including high blood pressure and diabetes, herniated disc, a disease in the prostate, which requires urgent surgery, as well as kidney and bladder stones. His family has repeatedly suggested covering all the expenses for his treatment in a trusted hospital, but to no avail.
The Egyptian authorities arrested Aboul Fotouh after his return from London following an interview with Al -Jazeera channel, in which he criticised the rule of the current President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi before his re-election in March 2018. He was charged with leadership of a terrorist group, financing terrorist groups, possession of weapons and ammunition, promoting ideas of a terrorist group, and broadcasting news, data and false rumors deliberately at home and abroad.
Finally, he was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment, and his deputy in the political party, Mohamed Al-Qassas was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment, in case No. 440 of 2018. The sentence came after spending four years in prison in pre-trial detention inside a solitary cell. He was tried before a state security court which is one of the worst exceptional courts under the emergency law, which lacks the right to appeal after a military verdict is given.
Aboul Fotouh was also placed on the lists of terrorism, deprived of all his legal and human rights, and subjected to medical negligence that almost claimed his life.
