The former Shura Council of the Freedom and Justice Party Khaled Sayed Nagi died in prison after spending 10 years in prison.
Since his arrest, Nagi has been subjected to deliberate medical negligence. He was prevented from receiving medicines and treatment inside the prison, in addition to preventing him from family visitation.
A few days ago, Political prisoner Ashraf Abdel Alim El-Sayed, former general manager of Misr Insurance Company, died of hepatitis, and was denied the necessary medical care in Al-Qanater 1 prison. He was arrested in April 2022 in a political case, until he died in May 2023.
Since the beginning of this year, the number of deaths inside prisons in Egypt has risen to 14, most of them have died due to deliberate medical negligence.
In 2022, 52 prisoners died in prisons either as a result of deliberate medical negligence, cold weather, or death due to the inhumane conditions of detention.
194 cases of medical negligence have been monitored in prisons and various detention facilities in Egypt.
