A large-scale raid and arrest campaign was carried out across Sharkia Governorate, in Egypt, ahead of the January 25 Revolution anniversary.
The campaign targeted several youths in Kafr al-Maragha town. Two detainees were identified as Ahmed Gouda and Ahmed Abdel-Aleem.
The Egyptian security forces also stormed several houses in the nearby village of Mit Suhail, in a failed attempt to arrest three wanted persons.
Several neighboring towns were also stormed and searched, with no confirmed reports about arrests.
Tension grows every year in Egypt ahead of the anniversary of the January 25 Revolution, where several activists and petitioners for protest got arrested.
Since 2013, the Egyptian regime has waged an unprecedented campaign of repression against the Egyptian opposition and civil society. Tens of thousands of people have been arrested, often on the most spurious of grounds, and many have been brought before ‘exceptional courts formed specifically to persecute dissent.
