The Egyptian businessman Safwan Thabet, founder of Juhayna Dairy Company, has been imprisoned since December 2020 over a fabricated charge of financing terrorism.
His daughter, Maryam, announced that she has submitted the fourth appeal in a month to the General Prosecutor, calling for the release of her father and brother Saif, who has been detained since February 2021 on similar charges.
“Where are the promises? This is the fourth time I have gone to the General Prosecutor’s office, at no avail”, she shared in a tweet.
A week ago she had also shared a tweet stating that she appealed for the release of her father and brother who doesn’t have a window in his cell.
Maryam pointed out the increasing risks to her father’s health, who has lost 25 kg of his weight and is held in solitary confinement, without being able to see the sunlight, breathe fresh air, walk, sleep on a bed or sleep or sit on a chair.
The British Economist magazine reported that the Egyptian regime is blackmailing business people and investors in order to confiscate their shares in companies, similar to the situation of the founder of Juhayna Dairy Company Safwan Thabet and his son Saif, who was arrested for refusing to sell their company.
