Human rights violations in Egypt continue inside prisons, with the repeated renewals of the detention of political detainees, amid increasing reports of deliberate medical negligence, poor detention conditions, and resulting deaths among detainees.
The Egyptian Attorney General, Mohamed Shawky Ayyad, received a report from the family of the late detainee Saad Al-Sayed Madin (57 years old), demanding an investigation into his death inside Borg Al-Arab Prison last Monday.
Madin’s family said that they saw marks on his body when they received his body, which raised suspicions about his death in mysterious circumstances.
According to human rights reports, Madin suffered from chronic diseases, and his family filed numerous complaints due to deliberate medical negligence inside the prison, in addition to denying him treatment for long periods, which contributed to the deterioration of his health.
Madin’s death requires an urgent investigation into the circumstances of his death, and holding the prison administration accountable for refusing to transfer him to the hospital for treatment and his subsequent death.
