The Egyptian authorities continued to subject the child, Ziad Khaled, 15, to enforced disappearance for 15 days, after which he appeared before the State Security Prosecution, which ordered his detention for 15 days pending investigation in case No. 95 of 2022.
Ziad, a student in the third year of middle school in Cairo, was arrested by security forced on February 16, 2022, and subject to enforced disappearance since then.
A report of the United Nations Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances had documented the systematic practice of the policy of enforced disappearance in Egypt, especially against activists, human rights defenders and ordinary citizens.
Enforced disappearance has become a weapon used by the Egyptian authorities to defame and tarnish the reputation of political opponents, by which it violates all international norms and laws.
It is worth noting that cases of enforced disappearance against dissidents are carried out on a daily basis in Egypt, amid complete impunity for the authorities committing these crimes.
