Ten children per day are losing one or both of their legs in the besieged Gaza Strip, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said.
“Basically, we have every day ten children who are losing one leg or two legs on average,” UNRWA chief Philippe Lazzarini revealed, adding that figure “does not even include the arms and the hands.”
Citing figures from the UN children’s agency UNICEF, he said that “ten per day, that means around 2,000 children after the more than 260 days of this brutal war.”
Lazzarini further highlighted the dire conditions under which these amputations are performed, often without anesthesia.
Since the start of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip on October 7, the Israeli occupation has been killing 4 Palestinian children every hour.
These numbers reflect the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, which requires the urgent intervention of the international community to put an end to the ongoing Israeli aggression, protect the rights of Palestinian children, and ensure their safety at all times, in accordance with humanitarian and international laws and principles.
Since October 7; the Israeli occupation is waging a devastating war on the Gaza Strip, which has left tens of thousands of victims, unbearable humanitarian conditions, and a major health and environmental catastrophe.
