The humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip continues to worsen amid a suffocating siege and ongoing aggression that amounts to genocide, as residents are denied the essentials for survival and all avenues of life are systematically blocked.
Since 7 October 2023, the Strip has been subjected to organised crimes by the occupying forces, including mass killings, deliberate starvation, widespread destruction, and forced displacement, in blatant violation of all humanitarian laws and international conventions.
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) confirmed on Thursday that families in Gaza are being deprived of “life’s basic necessities,” renewing its call for an end to Israel’s blockade of the territory.
In a post on social media platform X, the agency stated: “Families in Gaza have been left without the essentials for survival, and we have not been allowed to bring in any aid for six months.”
UNRWA stressed the urgent need for shelter items such as mattresses, blankets, and tents.
Israel’s systematic denial of food, water, and shelter to civilians constitutes a deliberate policy aimed at breaking the population through starvation and forced displacement. This is legally classified as a crime of genocide, where civilians are targeted in their daily lives and stripped of their fundamental rights, not as combatants, but simply because they are Palestinians who are being uprooted and erased from their land.
As the genocide continues, the death toll has risen to 63,746, with 161,245 injured, the majority being women and children. In addition, more than 9,000 people remain missing, buried under the rubble of destroyed homes and neighbourhoods. Meanwhile, famine has claimed the lives of 370 Palestinians, including 131 children, as all humanitarian corridors remain blocked and international complicity sustains the siege and killings.
What is unfolding in Gaza today is not a passing humanitarian crisis, but a full-scale genocide being carried out in full view of the world, while civilians are abandoned to their fate under bombardment, starvation, cold, and the denial of the most basic requirements for survival.
