19 Palestinians, including 9 children, were killed and others injured on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, in an airstrike carried out by occupation forces targeting a clinic run by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in Jabalia refugee camp, northern Gaza. The attack is part of the ongoing war crimes committed against civilians amid international complicity.
According to medical sources, the death toll rose from eight to 19, while dozens sustained varying degrees of injuries following a direct strike on the clinic, which was sheltering displaced people who had lost their homes due to continuous bombardment.
The clinic had already suffered previous damage from airstrikes, yet Palestinians sought refuge there due to the lack of safe spaces in the besieged territory.
Eyewitnesses reported that the bombing sparked a fire inside the clinic, resulting in some victims’ bodies being burned, which underscores the scale of the catastrophe facing Palestinians in Gaza.
The targeting of medical facilities, particularly those operated by international organisations, is a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, which explicitly prohibits attacks on civilians and healthcare centres.
This attack comes as the occupation continues to escalate its aggression against Gaza, vowing further crimes. On Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced plans to forcibly displace Palestinians, in a grave violation of indigenous rights and a clear breach of the Geneva Conventions, which prohibit forced displacement.
Since the occupation resumed its military campaign against Gaza on 18 March, the Ministry of Health has documented 1,042 Palestinian deaths and 2,542 injuries, the majority of whom are children and women.
Since the start of the genocide on 7 October 2023, the death toll has surpassed 164,000 killed and injured, with more than 11,000 missing amidst the ongoing destruction.
As massacres continue, the international community faces a real test of the credibility of the global human rights system. The persistent impunity and failure to take concrete action against the occupation only pave the way for further acts of genocide, putting the entire human rights framework at stake.
The situation in Gaza demands urgent action beyond verbal condemnation, including enforcing genuine accountability mechanisms. This should involve activating international courts to prosecute those responsible for these crimes and imposing sanctions on the occupation to halt its systematic violence against civilians.
