Nine Palestinian Red Crescent paramedics have been besieged by Israeli occupation forces (IOF) in the Tel Sultan area of Rafah, southern Gaza, while concerns on their safety are increasing after losing contact with them, and international calls to reveal their fate and ensure their protection are increasing.
This incident is part of a long series of attacks on medical personnel in Gaza, a flagrant violation of the Geneva Conventions, which guarantee the protection of health workers during conflict.
International humanitarian law provides that medical personnel must be respected and their work facilitated. However, the occupation continues to target them, threatening the entire medical system in the besieged Strip.
The Palestinian Red Crescent Society holds the Israeli occupation fully responsible for the lives of the paramedics and called for urgent intervention from the international community to allow rescue teams access to them and ensure their safety.
It should be noted that in light of the ongoing shelling and restrictions on medical services, The health sector in Gaza is facing an unprecedented crisis, with paramedics and relief workers exposed to increasing risks. This calls for effective international action to stop these violations and protect those who dedicate their lives to saving others.
