Arab Organisation for Human Rights in the UK (AOHR UK) stressed that the ongoing crimes of the Israeli occupation against the people of the Gaza Strip and the humanitarian crisis there are the result of the failure of international community, its abandonment of its humanitarian duty towards civilians in Gaza, and its failure to take the necessary measures to deter the occupation forces and put an end to the atrocities that continue to be committed there.
The people of the Gaza Strip are left alone facing heavily armed forces with internationally banned weapons, and without finding a safe place to escape the deadly weapons targeting them. In addition to the war, the Israeli minister of Defence issued a decision to cut food, water, medical supplies and fuel to the already besieged Strip. Furthermore, the only safe passage for the people of the Gaza Strip was the Rafah land crossing, which is currently closed with orders of the Israeli occupation.
The construction of concrete barriers at the gates of the Rafah crossing by the Egyptian authorities is a disgraceful act, exposing a clear submission to the decisions of the Israeli occupation to prevent all aids from reaching the Palestinians.
AOHR UK called on the Egyptian regime to adhere to international humanitarian law and recommendations of the United Nations, and to open the Rafah crossing, which is the only lifeline for the people of Gaza, without which no humanitarian aid could reach them.
It stressed that the current crisis requires effective and urgent measures to be taken to save civilians, who are in dire need of all kinds of support more than ever.
Closing the crossing is a death sentence for the people of Gaza, who are already suffering due to the collapse of the health sector, and the worsening humanitarian crisis due to the acute shortage of food and medical supplies and the fuel needed to generate electricity and operate medical devices.
A strict position on the escalating violations and war crimes against the Palestinians must be taken by the Arab world.
Countries that have normalised with the occupation, such as the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Morocco, should close their embassies in Israel and expel the Israeli ambassadors from their countries in rejection of the endless Israeli violence against the Palestinian people.
AOHR UK appeals to the Arab peoples, especially those whose regimes have normal relations with the Israeli occupation, to pressure their governments to fulfil their moral and humanitarian obligations to save the people of Gaza.
AOHR UK also calls on the international community to unite and take the necessary measures to address the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza and reach a solution to deter the Israeli occupation and put an end to its endless crimes.
