In yet another violation of the ceasefire agreement, Israeli occupation forces have killed two Palestinians and wounded several others in Al-Shuja’iya neighbourhood, east of Gaza City.
On Sunday, an Israeli drone (Quadcopter) opened fire on Palestinian civilians in the Al-Za’faran area, east of Al-Maghazi refugee camp in central Gaza, further escalating the ongoing aggression.
This latest attack comes despite the ceasefire, which officially came into effect on 19 January 2025. However, Israel has continued its military operations across the Gaza Strip.
Meanwhile, in Khan Younis, Israeli military vehicles heavily opened fire in the Al-Sanati area, east of Abasan Al-Kabira, according to eyewitnesses.
The ceasefire agreement, brokered by Egypt and Qatar, was supposed to transition into a second phase, leading to a permanent end to hostilities. However, Israel has reneged on its commitments, deliberately prolonging the first phase to secure the release of more of its captives while failing to offer any reciprocal concessions.
Beyond military violations, Israel has tightened its blockade on Gaza, shutting down all border crossings and blocking humanitarian aid, a move that human rights organisations have condemned as the use of starvation as a weapon of war—a crime against humanity under international law.
According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, the Israeli assault, ongoing since 7 October 2023, has killed 48,448 Palestinians and wounded over 160,000, the majority of whom are women and children. Additionally, 14,000 people remain missing, believed to be trapped beneath the rubble.
In light of this escalation, the international community must take urgent and effective measures to compel Israel to halt its crimes against Palestinians, establish permanent humanitarian corridors, and ensure that Israeli officials are held accountable for war crimes committed against civilians.
