The overcrowding and lack of hygiene in Palestinian refugee camps in the Gaza Strip has resulted in the increasing spread of infectious diseases, which is exacerbated by the severe shortage of vaccines and medicines.
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine (UNRWA) stated on X that its teams continue to provide health care to vulnerable people in Gaza, including children and the elderly.
UNRWA confirmed that vaccines and medicines in the Gaza Strip are insufficient, and overcrowding in displacement camps and lack of hygiene increase the spread of infectious diseases.
It also pointed out that there is an urgent need for safe and unrestricted access for relief and aid teams.
Since October 7, 2023, the Israeli occupation has been waging a devastating war on Gaza with absolute American support, leaving more than 118,000 Palestinians dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and about 10,000 missing amid massive destruction and famine that claimed the lives of children and the elderly.
As a result of the war, two million Palestinians were displaced from their homes, where they currently live in difficult humanitarian conditions, and face a major shortage of fuel, medicines, and the necessities of life, following Israel’s closure of the crossings.
The Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip constitutes a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and human rights, as it exposes the lives and property of civilians to extreme danger, and causes them great suffering, which requires urgent intervention by the international community to stop this aggression and protect civilians in the Gaza Strip.
