As the Gaza Strip endures one of the darkest humanitarian crises in modern history, the suffocating blockade continues amid relentless bombardment and escalating famine, claiming the lives of innocent civilians at the hands of the Israeli occupation forces.
In light of the worsening catastrophe, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) has renewed its urgent call for an immediate ceasefire and the unimpeded entry of humanitarian aid.
In a post on the platform X (formerly Twitter), the agency stated:
“It is time to shift the focus in Gaza towards an immediate ceasefire and humanitarian access.”
UNRWA emphasised that enabling the agency to safely and extensively distribute aid is a matter of utmost urgency that cannot be delayed.
Since 2 March 2025, the Israeli occupation has imposed a total closure on all crossings into the Strip, blocking the entry of food and relief supplies. Hundreds of aid-laden trucks are stranded at the borders, denied access.
Occasionally, minimal amounts of aid are permitted entry, far from sufficient to alleviate even a fraction of the widespread famine. Many of these shipments are reportedly looted by armed groups allegedly protected by Israeli occupation forces, according to the Gaza authorities.
Since 7 October 2023, Israeli occupation’s military assault has resulted in 65,141 deaths and 165,925 injuries, the vast majority of whom are women and children. The siege-induced famine has also claimed the lives of 432 individuals, including 146 children, figures that reveal the scale of the ongoing genocide against the besieged population.
What is unfolding in Gaza goes far beyond a conventional armed conflict. It is a stark example of genocide, where civilians are directly targeted, and millions are systematically deprived of the basic means of survival. The continued denial of food, medicine, and clean water constitutes a compound crime aimed at the eradication of an entire people. It demands urgent international intervention to hold those responsible accountable and to bring the bloodshed to an immediate end.
