Over the past ten days, the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) bombed at least eight schools in the Gaza Strip, six of which are run by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
The UNRWA Commissioner, Felipe Lazzarini, revealed that IOF bombed at least eight schools in Gaza in the past ten days, including six UNRWA schools.
The war robbed the girls and boys in Gaza of their childhood and education, Lazzarini said in a post on the “X” platform.
Schools must never be used for fighting or military purposes by any party to the conflict, he said, adding that schools are not a target.
“The blatant and constant disregard of international humanitarian law continues unabated. All rules of war have been broken in Gaza.”
Losing our common humanity must not become the new norm, the UN official concluded.
UNRWA schools were targeted more than once since the outbreak of the devastating war on the Gaza Strip; despite housing hundreds of displaced families.
Since October 7, 2023, the IOF has been waging a devastating war on the Gaza Strip, resulting in catastrophic humanitarian and health conditions, due to the continuous bombing and the prevention of supplies of food, water, medicine, and electricity.
The Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip constitutes a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and human rights, as it exposes the lives and property of civilians to extreme danger, which requires urgent intervention from the international community to stop the aggression and protect civilians in the Gaza Strip.
This international community must force the IOF to adhere to international laws and treaties on human rights and international humanitarian law. They must be obliged to protect the rights and lives of civilians, prohibit their targeting and preserve their safety, and punish the leaders responsible for committing war crimes in the Gaza Strip and elsewhere.
