The political detainee Hassan Diab Hassan Attia, 47, from Damietta governorate, died in the newly built Badr 3 Prison, only three weeks after being transferred there.
Attia has been detained for 7 years in Minia prison, south of Egypt, and he is a father of three.
Attia is the fifth victim to die in November in prison due to health negligence and poor detention conditions. The number of those who died in Egypt’s detention centres since the beginning of this year 2022 has reached 39 and the numbers continue to rise systematically.
The Egyptian authorities have also prevented the Red Cross from inspecting the detention conditions and do not allow any kind of supervision or monitoring to ensure the safety and well-being of detainees.
