Arab Organisation for Human Rights in the UK (AOHR UK) called on the European Union and international organisations that fund the Palestinian Authority, to re-evaluate their support for the PA and to take serious measures to grant the PA’s respect for human rights and justice, preventing impunity, and providing a safe environment for activists, journalists and human rights defenders.
AOHR UK called on all parties supporting the PA to condemn the violations of its security services, and all forms of assault, harassment, intimidation, arrest campaigns, torture, and security summons, that PA practice against civilians and to demand its operation in accordance with their international obligations and the EU guidelines, and to take serious actions to stop all violations.
On Saturday, August 21, the Security Services launched an arrest campaign against opponents, activists, academics and public figures, and attacked a peaceful demonstration demanding accountability for the killers of activist Nizar Banat who was killed under torture a few hours after his arrest by the Palestinian intelligence service.
AOHR UK pointed out that the recent arrests are part of a large-scale repressive campaign launched by the authorities last May in the wake of the Israeli aggression on Gaza, where the security services arrested about 120 Palestinian supporters of those in the Gaza Strip and condemned the Israeli aggression on them.
AOHR UK stressed on the need for the international community to take serious stances and intervene to save the Palestinian people from the violations of the Israeli occupation, as well as the Palestinian Authority, which continues to increase their suffering since the catastrophe of 1948, following the seizer of their lands and attempting to force them to accept living under occupation or annihilation.
