The Israeli occupation continues its aggression on Jenin and Tulkarm and their camps, in a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions, which prohibit targeting civilians and destroying infrastructure. All these crimes are taking place amidst suspicious international silence.
For 25 consecutive days, Jenin and its camp have been subjected to a large-scale aggression, resulting in the killing of 25 and injuring dozens, in addition to the complete destruction of homes and facilities, and the forced displacement of thousands of citizens who are facing catastrophic humanitarian conditions.
Meanwhile, the aggression on Tulkarm and its camps enters its 19th day, with an unprecedented military campaign, arrests, forced displacement, and the destruction of homes and infrastructure, which constitutes a clear violation of human rights conventions that criminalise collective punishment.
20,000 residents were forced to flee Jenin camp under the pressure of ongoing shelling and demolition, while 470 residential facilities were completely or partially destroyed, as water and electricity are completely cut off from the city and camp.
In Tulkarm, the occupation authorities continue to impose a stifling siege on the city’s two camps, amidst bombings of civilian homes and forcing them to evacuate, causing double humanitarian suffering, especially with the deterioration of weather conditions.
In another violation, the occupation forces are preventing water from reaching four major hospitals in Jenin, depriving 35% of the city’s residents of potable water, and threatening a health disaster, especially with the severe shortage of food and medicine.
The occupation’s aggression was accompanied by a wave of mass arrests, as local human rights organisations documented the arrest of at least 380 citizens from Jenin, Tulkarm and Tubas since the beginning of the aggression.
Reports also indicated that detainees were subjected to field torture and random investigations, in light of practices that amount to war crimes under the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.
Amidst these serious violations, the international community continues to ignore taking deterrent measures against the occupation, giving it the green light to continue its repressive policies against Palestinian civilians.
