On Wednesday, Jan.4, 2023, the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) demolished a Palestinian house under construction Ain Al-Lawza neighborhood in Silwan town in Occupied Jerusalem.
A large number of IOF troops stormed the area and surrounded a local house, owned by Muhammad Ahmad al-Awar, before starting the demolition process.
The Israeli authorities notified the house with the demolition only one day earlier under the pretext of being built without Israeli permit.
Al-Awar built the house about six months ago on an area of 160 square meters. He had earlier submitted a construction permit request but it was refused.
According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) over the past 10 years Israel has demolished more than 1,100 structures in occupied East Jerusalem, displacing more than 2,000 people and impacting the lives of more than 6,000 people.
House demolitions have been central tools to facilitate Israel’s land appropriation and dispossession in the occupied Palestinian territories.
