In a new violation of the ceasefire agreement, the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) killed a Palestinian and seriously injured another on Wednesday morning, east of Rafah city in the southern Gaza Strip.
The incident came as part of the ongoing Israeli violations of the Gaza ceasefire agreement amid suspicious international silence.
The European Gaza Hospital received a dead person and a seriously injured man, following an Israeli attack on a group of Palestinians who were inspecting their homes in the “Abu Halawa” area east of Rafah.
The Israeli occupation army acknowledged its responsibility for the attack, claiming that the dead and injured were trying to “assemble a drone”, a narrative that the Israeli occupation has been using to justify its extrajudicial killings.
Since the ceasefire agreement came into effect on January 19, 2025, hundreds of Israeli violations have been documented, most notably the targeting of unarmed civilians, the restrictions on humanitarian aid access, and obstructing the return of displaced persons to their destroyed areas in the northern Gaza Strip.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health revealed that 92 Palestinians were killed and 822 others were injured since the start of the truce.
Palestinian sources also documented 269 Israeli violations of the humanitarian protocol, which confirms the continuation of the Israeli killing policy and systematic targeting of civilians.
These violations constitute a flagrant violation of the Geneva Conventions, which require the Israeli forces to protect civilians during armed conflicts or periods of truce, and also violate Article 3 common to the agreements, which prohibits killing, torture, and cruel treatment against persons who do not participate in hostilities.
Despite these violations, international powers, led by the United States, continue to support the Israeli occupation politically and militarily, which gives them cover to continue its violations.
Washington had announced its support for the ceasefire agreement mediated by Egypt and Qatar, but it did not oblige the Israeli occupation to take any measures to prevent the continuation of its crimes, which undermines any credibility of the agreement on the ground.
