The Israeli occupation forces shot dead a foreign activist on Friday in Beita town in the Nablus Governorate, northern West Bank.
Fouad Nafaa, director of Rafidia Governmental Hospital, said that the American citizen of Turkish origin, Aysenur Ezgi Ece, 26, arrived at the hospital with a bullet in the head, and underwent resuscitation, but died immediately.
IOF fired live bullets at Palestinians duribg a weekly protest denouncing settlements on Mount Sabih in Beita, south of Nablus.
The killed activist holds American citizenship and volunteers as part of the “Faz’a” campaign to support and protect Palestinian farmers from the violations of the occupation and settlers.
The killing of the activist in solidarity with the Palestinians constitutes a clear violation of the right to life, one of the basic human rights, and violates the right to freedom of expression and assembly, recognised in the international human rights declarations, such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which stipulate that the use of lethal force against people participating in peaceful protests can be a violation of their rights to expression and assembly.
This crime highlights the importance of providing protection for international volunteers, as part of any humanitarian or human rights efforts, and raises concerns about the Israeli occupation’s respect for human rights, and highlights the urgent need to strictly apply human rights laws and bring those responsible to justice.
