A 15-year-old Palestinian boy, Murad Fawzi Abu Saifin, was shot dead by the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) in the town of Al-Yamun, west of Jenin in the northern occupied West Bank. This crime adds to the growing list of systematic violations against Palestinian civilians, particularly children.
According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, Abu Saifin was fatally shot and his body was withheld by IOF troops, who also prevented medics from reaching him. Eyewitnesses said the army stormed the town late at night and opened fire on youths, striking the teenager and then detaining him while he was bleeding.
This incident is part of a broader pattern of field executions carried out by the Israeli occupation military in the West Bank, clear breaches of international humanitarian law, which prohibits lethal force except in strictly necessary and exceptional cases.
The use of deadly force against civilians, especially minors, reflects a culture of impunity that has become entrenched in the actions of the Israeli occupation. Under international law, targeting children is a grave violation that may constitute a war crime, particularly when there is no immediate threat to life or military necessity.
Since the onset of the Israeli assault on Gaza in October 2023, violations in the West Bank have surged dramatically. The IOF and settlers have killed more than 1,066 Palestinians and injured around 10,000, while over 20,000 have been detained, including some 1,600 children.
These figures, combined with continued killings and mass arrests, indicate the West Bank has become a hotspot for unchecked abuses amid a climate of international inaction. The lack of accountability only emboldens the occupying power to carry out further repression against defenceless civilians.
