The current phase of the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people has sharpened, with occupation forces launching ‘dozens’ of air attacks against the residents of the Gaza Strip over the last 12 hours.
The current phase began with the start of this year’s Ramadan.
At dawn today, a 12-year-old boy was injured as a result of Israeli air force strikes against an area to the west of the city of Khan Yunis, in Gaza’s south. F-16 warplanes fired two missiles at the area, leading to the child’s injury and to the complete destruction of several buildings.
Israeli occupation forces also damaged Palestinians’ homes, and severely damaged at least one building of the Muhammad al-Durra Children’s Hospital, in the al-Tuffah neighbourhood in the east of Gaza City.
The neighbourhood was struck with at least 12 separate rockets.
Medical workers and patients were affected by the attack.
Occupation planes bombed agricultural lands to the south of the city of Rafah, near the Palestine-Egypt border. At least three rockets were fired, causing property damage.
Israeli planes also bombed a site east of the city of Deir al-Balah, in the centre of Gaza. At least 8 rockets were fired, it is reported.
Israeli occupation artillery fired two shells at the al-Zaytoun neighbourhood of the same city, causing damage to property.
The bombing of the hospitals is a clear violation of the Geneva Convention. Article 19 demands that “fixed establishments and mobile medical units of the Medical Service may in no circumstances be attacked but shall at all times be respected and protected by the Parties to the conflict.”
