In a new escalation of collective punishment policies and systematic violations against Palestinians, Israeli occupation forces on Tuesday morning demolished a two-story Palestinian home and several commercial shops in the town of Al-Zawiya in the northern West Bank, under the pretext of “unauthorized construction.”
The occupation routinely uses this pretext to legitimize demolitions and the forced displacement of Palestinians in the occupied territories.
According to eyewitnesses, Israeli bulldozers entered the town accompanied by military forces and began demolishing the home of citizen Nasser Brahema without prior warning or giving him time to evacuate his belongings, resulting in massive material losses and leaving the family homeless.
The bulldozers also targeted several commercial shops located at the town’s entrance, further exacerbating the already deteriorating economic situation in the area.
This demolition is part of a broader escalation. Since January 21, the occupation has continued its assault on the Jenin, Tulkarm, and Nur Shams refugee camps, marked by repeated raids and destruction of infrastructure—a clear pattern of mass intimidation and daily persecution.
Amid complicit international silence, recent months have seen a sharp increase in violations across the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, where Israeli forces and settlers have carried out hundreds of deadly assaults on Palestinians. These have resulted in the deaths of at least 981 Palestinians, the injury of around 7,000, and the arrest of more than 17,500 individuals, according to local data.
These violations in the West Bank coincide with the ongoing genocide in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, which has led to over 187,000 Palestinians killed or injured—most of them women and children. More than 11,000 remain missing, and hundreds of thousands have been displaced in one of the worst humanitarian disasters of modern times, backed by unconditional U.S. military and political support.
What is happening in the West Bank—demolitions, displacement, killings, and mass arrests—is part of a systematic policy aimed at depopulating the land of its indigenous inhabitants and imposing a settlement reality by force. This constitutes a grave breach of international humanitarian law, particularly the Geneva Conventions, which prohibit collective punishment and forcible demolition in occupied territories.
