On the fourth day of its aggression on Jenin camp in the northern occupied West Bank; the israeli occupation forces continued to systematically demolish homes and destroy infrastructure using heavy bulldozers, which constitutes a serious violation of international humanitarian law.
Israeli bulldozers began demolishing homes near Abdullah Azzam mosque in the center of the camp, in a move aimed at opening military corridors for heavy machinery towards densely populated neighborhoods.
Eyewitnesses reported that the campaign took place amid burning of homes and the bulldozing of shops, in addition to the destruction of roads, water and electricity networks.
While the demolition operations continue, the Palestinian population is facing a large-scale wave of forced displacement, as UNRWA documented the displacement of more than 2,000 families from the camp since mid-December, in violation of Article 49 of the Fourth Geneva Convention, which prohibits the forced transfer of residents under occupation.
Since the beginning of the aggressionon Jenim, 12 Palestinians were killed and 40 others were injured, while the occupation forces arrested dozens of residents and transferred them to interrogation centers, amid harsh conditions and human rights violations.
This aggression comes as part of the Israeli domestic politics, as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu seeks to calm tensions within his far-right government. According to the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper, Netanyahu promised the extremist Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich to launch a large-scale attack on the Jenin camp in exchange for maintaining the cohesion of the government.
These violations continue amid international silence and the inaction of the relevant institutions, which exacerbates the suffering of the Palestinians and raises questions about the credibility of the international system in protecting human rights.
