Israeli Occupation Forces stormed Nasser Medical Complex and Al-Amal Hospital in Khan Yunis, southern Gaza Strip, amidst heavy gunfire.
The Palestinian Red Crescent Society stated, “Israeli forces stormed Al-Amal Hospital and Nasser Hospital amid intense shelling and heavy gunfire.”
They added, “Israeli forces are carrying out excavation work in the vicinity of Al-Amal Hospital, and all our teams are in extreme danger and unable to move at all.”
Israeli military vehicles suddenly infiltrated near Nasser Medical Complex on Sunday, coinciding with a series of Israeli airstrikes in various areas of the city, resulting in casualties.
Amir Abu Eisha, an emergency operations staff member at the Palestinian Red Crescent, was killed in the airstrikes during his work inside Al-Amal Hospital.
Thousands of displaced individuals sought refuge at Nasser Medical Complex, fleeing from Israeli military operations. Gradual operations have commenced within the hospital’s emergency department after repairs and the provision of medical equipment.
On February 15th, Israeli Occupation Forces raided the hospital in a 10-day military operation that resulted in the killing of dozens of displaced individuals, medical personnel, and patients inside the hospital. Hundreds of displaced individuals were also arrested. The Ministry of Health in Gaza reported that the hospital’s buildings and various departments were destroyed and targeted during the operation.
This crisis experienced by Nasser and Al-Amal hospitals requires urgent action from the international community to ensure the protection of patients’ rights and the provision of necessary medical care for them. The Israeli Occupation must be held accountable for human rights violations and violations of international humanitarian law, which stipulates the protection of medical facilities and personnel during conflicts.
Since October 7th, the Israeli Occupation Forces has been waging a devastating war on the Gaza Strip, resulting in dire humanitarian conditions and a significant health and environmental catastrophe due to the destruction of vital facilities and widespread sewage overflow.
At the onset of the war, the occupation cut off all electricity, water, fuel, and food supplies to the entire population of the Gaza Strip. They targeted hospitals, health centers, bakeries, factories, stores, water stations, and reservoirs, causing extensive damage to the infrastructure.
The Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip constitutes a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and human rights, endangering the lives and properties of civilians and causing severe suffering. It necessitates urgent and decisive intervention from the international community to stop the aggression and protect civilians in the region.
