The Israeli occupation authorities continue to impose severe restrictions on the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, in flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and the Fourth Geneva Convention, which obligates the occupation power to ensure the delivery of basic supplies to civilians.
These obstructions have led to the aggravation of the humanitarian situation in the besieged Strip. The number of victims, especially children, has increased due to the lack of food, medicine and shelter. This systematic policy of starvation and collective punishment is classified as a war crime under international law.
The United Nations confirmed the continued Israeli obstruction on the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, amid catastrophic humanitarian conditions that are worsening day after day.
UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said in a press conference that Israeli restrictions have led to the death of 6 newborns due to the severe cold and lack of medical facilities, bringing the number of children who have died as a result of cold and hunger since the beginning of the crisis to 15.
Dujarric pointed out that the occupation is imposing severe obstacles on the entry of aid, including tents and mobile homes (caravans), which increases the suffering of the displaced who live in the open amid harsh weather conditions.
Despite international and UN appeals, the occupation continues to impose a policy of mass starvation on the residents of Gaza, in flagrant violation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which stipulates the right of every human being to food, shelter, and health care.
The ongoing blockade and the prevention of the entry of aid has worsened the humanitarian crisis in the Strip, with more than 2.3 million Palestinians facing severe shortages of food, water, and medicine, which threatens an unprecedented humanitarian disaster.
The continued restrictions on the entry of aid are not only logistical, but are part of a systematic policy aimed at starving the population and psychologically and physically abusing them, and it requires an urgent international action to end these crimes and save the lives of innocent people in Gaza.
