Arab Organisation for Human Rights in the UK (AOHR UK) said that an immediate investigation must be opened into the death of Jordanian citizen Zaid Sidqi Ali Al-Dabash, 37, inside Marka prison in Amman, adding that marks of torture were visible on his body and raising suspicions of being killed under torture.
On September 04, 2022, Al-Dabash was arrested by a security patrol and taken to the Shamsani Security Center in Amman, then transferred to Marka prison in the morning.
No news of Al-Dabash were heard of until the family received a phone call on September 06, from a prison officer who informed them of his death and told him to take his body from the Forensic Medicine Center at Al-Bashir Hospital, without revealing any reasons for his death.
AOHR UK reviewed photos and a video of Al-Dabash’s body, filmed by his family after receiving the body, showing signs of bruises on various parts of his body, which is likely to be as a result of beatings and torture which led to his death.
According to the family lawyer, Malik Abu Rumman, the signs of beating and torture were on Al-Dabash’s hands, legs, back, stomach and ears, and that the chains with which he was handcuffed and tied on his feet broke his bones.
AOHR UK called on the Jordanian authorities to respond quickly to the demands of the family of Zaid Al-Dabash, to open an immediate investigation into his death, and to hold all those responsible accountable. The Organisation also stressed that ignoring these crimes, and granting impunity to criminals, is a grave violation, which reflects a systematic policy of the authorities.
