Arab Organisation for Human Rights in the UK (AOHR UK) welcomed the motion of the British Labour Party’s conference against the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories for more than seventy years as well as calling for the imposition of sanctions on Israel as an apartheid state that commits heinous crimes against the Palestinians.
AOHR UK highlighted that this motion comes as a victory for humanity, with a clear message to the Israeli occupation authorities that the world has begun to take stances against its policies and will not tolerate any of its brutal crimes, tyranny, and the continuous abuse of the Palestinian people and their rights anymore.
AOHR UK added that this motion confirms that the Palestinian people are not alone, despite all normalisation efforts with Israel by some Arab regimes, and that there are people who support the Palestinians and care about the suffering they face on a daily basis at the hands of the Israeli occupation.
On Monday, September 27, the British Labour Party held its annual general conference in the city of Brighton, southern England, during which it had voted by an overwhelming majority in favour of a resolution condemning “the ongoing Palestinian Nakba, Israel’s military attack on Al-Aqsa Mosque and the deliberate displacement of Sheikh Jarrah and Israel’s on Gaza.”
The resolution also welcomed the International Criminal Court’s investigation into Israel’s crimes.
AOHR UK highlighted that during the conference, the party referred to a previous motion issued by the trade unions in 2020, in which it described Israel’s settlement activity as part of the Israeli apartheid crime in the occupied territories, while calling on the rest of the trade unions in Europe all over the world to join the “international campaign to stop the annexation of lands” and ending the apartheid regime.
AOHR UK called on the leadership of the Labour Party to fully abide by this motion and to keep it at the heart of its policy in dealing with Israel, especially in case of reaching power.
