Arab Organisation for Human Rights in the UK (AOHR UK) stated that recent media reports discussing talks with Libyan authorities to forcibly transfer one million Palestinians from the Gaza Strip and resettle them in Libya, and similar talks with Syrian authorities for the same purpose, must be publicly rejected and condemned. It must be made clear that both countries are working to stop the genocide, facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid, and contribute to the reconstruction of Gaza after the war ends.
AOHR UK pointed out that the displacement plan announced by Trump upon taking office was met with widespread rejection and condemnation at all levels. Libya had an honourable stance at the time, and it is expected to reaffirm that position, as the Palestinian people have categorically rejected such plans and reaffirmed their attachment to their land, refusing to relive the catastrophe that befell them 77 years ago.
AOHR UK added that the United States, under Trump’s leadership, has revealed its ugly colonial face through such secret negotiations of these plans, which shows complete disregard for international law, values, and ethics. It has exploited the state of weakness and chaos in certain countries, forcing them to comply with its demands or face further destruction and bloodshed.
AOHR UK expressed strong disapproval over the emergence of such reports following Trump’s visit to Gulf states, during which he secured four trillion dollars to rescue the American economy from the economic war he is waging against both friends and foes. This confirms that ending the genocide in Gaza, alleviating starvation, and resolving the humanitarian crisis were not even discussed as conditions for such investments, nor was the bare minimum of withdrawing the displacement plan from consideration.
The Arab summit taking place today in Iraq is an opportunity for Arab leaders to adopt decisions with mechanisms for implementation, in coordination with international partners, to end the genocide in the Gaza Strip, ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid, and assert a clear rejection of displacement plans, while isolating any parties engaging with such proposals, it added.
AOHR UK emphasised that, as the Nakba enters its 77th year, the Palestinian people remain steadfast on their land, facing alone a brutal war machine that kills people and destroys the lands with the backing of Western colonial powers led by the United States. The international community should implement the United Nations resolutions which affirm the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state.
