The mother of Mahmoud Sader, a political detainee, is urging the Palestinian Authority to release her son. In a heartfelt video, she directly appeals to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh, pleading for the immediate release of her imprisoned son.
She accuses the Palestinian Authority’s intelligence agency of arbitrarily arresting Mahmoud from Jericho, in the eastern part of the West Bank, after summoning him for an interview. Desperate for answers, Mahmoud’s mother demands that the Palestinian security forces reveal his whereabouts, clarify the reasons for his arrest, and disclose the charges against him.
Expressing her deep disappointment, she refutes the Palestinian Authority’s claims that there are no political prisoners in their jails. She emphasizes that her son, Mahmoud, is not involved in drug or arms trafficking, nor is he corrupt. She questions the motives behind his arrest, pondering whether released prisoners have become targets for the authority.
The Palestinian Authority’s security forces have been implicated in 411 violations in the West Bank during the previous month alone. This surge in human rights abuses primarily targets Palestinians, particularly former released prisoners and political detainees.
Currently, approximately 50 Palestinians are being held by the Palestinian Authority’s security forces in the West Bank due to their political affiliations and union activities.
These violations committed by the Palestinian Authority compound the suffering of the Palestinian people, who already endure the hardships of occupation. It is imperative for the international community and countries supporting the Palestinian Authority to uphold international human rights standards, ensure justice prevails, respect court decisions, safeguard detainees’ rights, and provide them with secure and dignified detention conditions.
