Nearly 300,000 children are estimated to have been exposed to the powerful Storm Daniel across eastern Libya, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) revealed.
Do not forget Derna and the destruction Storm Daniel brought across East Libya into children’s lives. After almost two weeks, attention is already vanishing, the UN agency said on X, previously known as Twitter.
On September 10, Storm Daniel unleashed havoc across eastern Libya, bursting dams and destroying buildings in many towns, but particularly in Al Bayda, Al Marj and the coastal city of Derna.
Storm Daniel has reportedly claimed the lives of more than 11,300 people, with several hundred more still missing.
The United Nations International Organization for Migration announced that more than 36,000 people were internally displaced.
Libya has been suffering from a brutal civil war for years, which has left thousands of deaths and injuries and massive destruction to the country’s infrastructure.
