At least 65 Palestinians were killed in the early hours of Wednesday following a series of intense Israeli airstrikes targeting residential homes in Jabalia refugee camp and Jabalia town, in the northern Gaza Strip. Reports also indicate dozens of people remain missing or trapped under the rubble, in yet another scene reflecting what observers describe as a policy of genocide against civilians in one of the most densely populated areas in the world.
The aerial bombardment struck residential homes without prior warning, leading to a high number of casualties, including women and children. Emergency efforts have been severely hampered due to damaged roads and the lack of fuel for ambulances.
In a separate attack, an entire family—a father, mother, and their two daughters—was killed when an Israeli strike hit a displacement tent in the Al-Mawasi area west of Khan Younis. This area had previously been declared a “safe zone” by the Israeli military, exposing the recurring tactic of using so-called de-escalation zones as deadly traps for civilians.
Since 7 October 2023, Israel, with direct military and political support from the United States, has waged a comprehensive war of annihilation, resulting in over 172,000 dead and wounded, the majority of whom are women and children, according to Gaza’s health authorities. In addition, more than 11,000 people are missing, many presumed to be buried beneath the rubble or in undisclosed mass graves.
These latest attacks come as Gaza faces total collapse of its health and humanitarian systems. Over 36 hospitals and medical centres are now out of service, medical supplies have run out, and hundreds of thousands of homes have been destroyed, leaving approximately 1.9 million people displaced—around 85% of the population of the Gaza Strip.
In the absence of accountability, the cycle of death continues day after day. Palestinians are being buried beneath the rubble, while the world reduces their screams to brief segments in the evening news.
