On Wednesday, June 29, 2022, a Palestinian man was killed by Israeli gunfire during a military raid into Jenin, north of the occupied West Bank.
Palestinian Health Ministry affirmed that Muhammad Maher Marei, 25, was killed after being shot in the chest.
The head of the Khalil Suleiman Governmental Hospital in Jenin, Wissam Baker, said that Marei was killed by Israeli gunfire after armed clashes broke out following a dawn army raid
Israeli special units stormed Jenin using Palestinian vehicle registration plates and broke into a number of local homes, before arresting two youths. The detainees were later identified as Yahya Al-Jaafar and Ahmed Al-Nabhan.
Heavy live fire and tear-gas bombs were using during the army raid, local sources reported.
Marei is the latest fatality in the West Bank city that has seen an increase in military raids over the past few months. 27 Palestinians were killed in Jenin since the start of the year.
Occupation forces have significantly escalated military raids in the West Bank and occupied Jerusalem during the past several weeks, following a green light from the Israeli political officials.
The Occupation Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has recently issued a written order to grant “all security forces full freedom” to advance assaults on Palestinians.
In January 2022, the Israeli occupation has officially allowed its troops to shoot at Palestinians who had thrown rocks or firebombs, even if the suspect no longer present an immediate threat.
