The United Nations has reported that approximately 142,000 Palestinians have been newly displaced within the Gaza Strip following the renewed Israeli military offensive and the issuance of fresh evacuation orders by the occupying forces.
Speaking at a press briefing, UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric stated that the relentless aerial bombardment and Israel’s continued obstruction of humanitarian aid have deepened the already catastrophic situation in Gaza. “Everything in Gaza is running out—time, life, and supplies,” Dujarric warned, stressing the consequences of Israel’s persistent disregard for international law.
According to UN data, the latest evacuation orders affect 17% of the territory, a move viewed as an attempt to forcibly empty residential areas, pushing more civilians into overcrowded and unsafe zones.
At the same time, Israeli authorities continue to block the entry of life-saving humanitarian assistance, further endangering the lives of civilians and contributing to the rapid spread of mass hunger across the territory.
Gaza has been under a comprehensive blockade for 18 years, effectively transforming the enclave into an open-air prison, stripped of basic living conditions. Since the escalation of hostilities on 7 October 2023, the Israeli assault has intensified, with daily airstrikes resulting in the deaths and injuries of over 164,000 Palestinians, the majority of whom are women and children. Additionally, more than 14,000 individuals remain missing beneath the rubble.
The cumulative impact of ongoing bombardments, forced displacement, and the blockade has pushed Gaza into the first stages of famine, according to international reports. More than 1.5 million Palestinians are now facing severe food insecurity, having lost their homes and access to essential supplies.
The closure of border crossings by Israeli authorities has further worsened the humanitarian emergency. Aid organisations warn that unless the blockade is lifted immediately, the region faces an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe. Urgent international action is required to halt the aggression, end the siege, and ensure the protection of Gaza’s civilian population before the crisis spirals further beyond control.
