International human rights calls for immediate action to halt Israeli aggression are growing in response to the Israeli war of genocide against Palestinian civilians and the ongoing dire humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.
With the human suffering of the Palestinian people continuing unchecked and no effective measures in place to deter these violations, this occurs in the context of what experts and observers have called one of the most dangerous forms of systematic targeting of civilians in modern history.
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has confirmed that, since October 2023, the Gaza Strip has seen the most intense bombing of civilians since World War II.
The statement was made on Friday, the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, on the agency’s official account on the “X” website. This comes at a time when the genocide in the Strip is still occurring without any real international deterrent.
UNRWA called for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip to alleviate the suffering of the civilian population, stating that the Palestinian refugee crisis remains the longest in the history of international crises.
In 1977, the United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution 181, which established this yearly event to honor the decision to divide Palestine into “Arab” and “Jewish” states.
As the humanitarian situation in Gaza worsens due to the ongoing blockade and military aggression that has resulted in massive human losses, the UN agency explained that the world is currently facing a humanitarian catastrophe, with human rights reports indicating unprecedented bombing targeting civilians.
The international community should use the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People as a chance to honor its moral and legal obligations to these people, put an end to the Israeli occupation, and put an end to the crimes that are still being committed.
Achieving justice and redress for the Palestinian people is still a pressing responsibility that cannot be put off in light of the growing number of violations.
