On Thursday, the Palestinian security services arrested the Palestinian journalist and blogger Aqeel Al-Awawdeh, near his workplace in Ramallah.
Al-Awawdeh’s arrest came hours after he criticised the Palestinian leadership on his Facebook account for the announcement made by the spokesman of the Palestinian security services, Major General Talal Dweikat, in which he claimed that there are no political detainees, three months after Awawdeh filed a complaint against Prime Minister Mohamed Shtayyah.
A force from the Preventive Security Service arrested Al-Awawdeh on his way to work, and transferred him to the main headquarters of the agency in Ramallah, without informing his family about the reason for the arrest.
Al-Awawdeh shared a video on the presence of dozens of political detainees in the custody of the Palestinian security services, in response to a statement made by the spokesman for the security services.
On April 3, 2023, Al-Awawdeh had submitted a complaint to the Palestinian Public Prosecutor’s Office, calling for an investigation into his ban on the Facebook page of the Prime Minister.
The Palestinian Authority in the West Bank arrests about 50 Palestinians for their political affiliation and trade union activity.
