On Wednesday, August 30, 2023, the Palestinian Authority (PA) security services shot and killed a Palestinian in Tulkarem refugee camp in the occupied West Bank.
Abdul Qader Nidal Zaqdah was shot dead when the PA security forces opened fire at a group of local residents protesting the removal of barricades they had put up earlier to obstruct Israel’s repeated raids on the camp.
Zaqdah suffered serious injuries during the shooting before later being pronounced dead.
Dozens of local residents also suffocated from teargas inhalation during the attack, including the elderly Fakhr al-Ardah, who was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Early on Wednesday, violent confrontations took place inside the Tulkarem refugee camp between the security services and locals who attempted to stop members of the security services from removing barricades they had put up earlier to obstruct Israel’s repeated raids on the camp.
The PA forces fired live bullets at the residents of the camp during the confrontation.
The incident stresses the urgent need for opening an investigation into the death of Abdul Qader Nidal Zaqdah, holding those responsible for the use of excessive force accountable, protecting civilians’ lives, and respecting their rights.
