The imprisoned doctor Ziad Muhammad Al-Dalo is a Palestinian new victim who was killed behind Israeli bars.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip announced the killing of Dr. Ziad Muhammad Al-Dalo in Israeli prisons.
The ministry explained in a statement on Wednesday that the Israeli forces kidnapped Dr. Al-Dalo while performing his humanitarian duty at Al-Shifa Medical Complex on March 18, 2024.
The ministry condemned this heinous crime against Palestinian medical staff, and considered targeting health cadres while performing their humanitarian duty a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and all international conventions.
The health authorities called on international and human rights organizations to intervene immediately to reveal the fate of dozens of Palestinian health cadres who were kidnapped from Gaza’s hospitals while performing their medical and humanitarian duty.
The continuation of these violations against health workers is a systematic targeting of the Palestinian people and their institutions, that requires holding the occupation accountable before the international community for its crimes against medical staff and civilians.
A few days ago, paramedic Hamdan Anaba died in Israeli prisons after being arrested by the Israeli forces during his coordinated humanitarian work while transporting patients and the injured at the Netzarim checkpoint.
Since the beginning of the Israeli genocidal war on Gaza on October 7, 2023, it has been revealed that more than 50 detainees from the Strip have been tortured to death in Israeli prisons.
Since the start of the Gaza war, Palestinian prisoners have been subjected to systematic torture and abuse by the Israeli prison guards. This includes beating, sexual abuse, urinating on prisoners, forcing them to kiss the Israeli flag, and other inhuman abuses.
Prisoner deaths have increased as a result of the authorities’ increased violations against them. Medical reports have demonstrated that some prisoners suffered from severe violence and medical negligence.
Furthermore, Palestinian prisoners’ access to medical care was firmly restricted by the Israeli prison administration. They were denied access to prison clinics for medical care, the opportunity to receive care in hospitals, had irregular medication distribution, and were not given examinations or follow-up visits by prison medical professionals.
The international community and human rights organizations need to put pressure on the Israeli occupation authorities to stop these oppressive practices regarding the arrests and violations of prisoners by Israel.
