Palestinian woman Iman Muhammad Abdul Salam Eid Jaradat, 45, suffering from a health issue died at a checkpoint in the northeast of Hebron on Tuesday evening after the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) obstructed her transfer to a hospital.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health stated that Iman Jaradat died of a heart attack after Israeli forces at the Beit Einun checkpoint prevented her transfer to a hospital.
This incident came as part of the Israeli repressive measures in the West Bank, coinciding with the ceasefire that went into effect in the Gaza Strip last Sunday.
These measures included setting up new military checkpoints, closing roads, and carrying out a military operation in Jenin that resulted in the killing of 10 Palestinians and the injury of 40 others on Tuesday evening.
According to statements by the Director General of the Popular Action Department in the Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission, Abdullah Abu Rahma; the Israeli occupation added 14 new checkpoints and gates during the past week, bringing the total number of checkpoints and gates across the West Bank to 898, in a move that will exacerbate the daily suffering of Palestinian people and restrict their freedom of movement, in flagrant violation of international humanitarian law.
The restrictions on freedom of movement in the occupied Palestinian territories are part of the apartheid regime imposed by the Israeli occupation. According to the Fourth Geneva Convention, these practices are considered illegal as they impede access to basic services, including health care.
The death of Iman Jaradat is the latest in a series of ongoing Israeli violations against the people of the West Bank. This incident reflects the occupation’s disregard for international human rights standards, including Article 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which guarantees the right to health care.
