On Sunday, September 4, 2022, Nidal Agbaria, 44, a renowned Palestinian journalist and owner of the popular news site Bladtana, was shot dead in his car in the Arab city of Umm-al-Fahm within the Green Line.
He was transported to Emek Hospital in Afula in critical condition, and a few minutes later doctors declared him dead.
About a year ago, dozens of shots were fired at his house. Agbaria notably declared after the event: “We (journalists) have become a target for criminals because of our work.”
Media and human rights organisations mourned the journalist, holding the Israeli occupation authorities responsible for his killing, after failing to maintain security in the Arab society inside the occupied territories.
Agbaria is the 72nd death in Arab society since the beginning of the year.
Over the past year, 127 Palestinians were killed in armed attacks within the Green Line, while 93 Palestinians were killed in similar incidents in 2019, and 99 in 2020.
