Prisoner Islam Al-Sarsawi, who was arrested by the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) from the Shuja’iyya neighborhood in the Gaza Strip, was killed under torture inside Sde Teiman camp.
Prisoner Islam Al-Sarsawi, 42, was arrested during the recent storming of the Al-Shifa Medical Complex by the IOF. He is one of dozens who have been killed in the prisons and camps of the occupation, who still remain unknown.
Palestinian organisations confirmed that Al-Sarsawi was killed 4 months ago, and they were only able to document this recently.
Prisoner Al-Sarsawi worked as an officer in the police force, and was arrested with dozens from inside the Al-Shifa Medical Complex, whose fate or places of detention were not revealed at the time, as they were subjected to enforced disappearance.
With the killing of Al- Sarsawi, the number of prisoners killed since 1967 has risen to 257, including 20 killed since the beginning of the war of extermination on the Gaza Strip, in addition to dozens of detainees from Gaza who were killed and the occupation continues to conceal their identities.
It is worth noting that the number of prisoners in the occupation prisons has reached more than 9,900, and this data does not include all detainees from Gaza.
Since the beginning of the war on the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023, the occupation prison guards have been assaulting prisoners by beating them randomly with batons, sexually insulting them, and forcing them to urinate on other prisoners, in addition to slapping and punching them while transferring them between different dormitories, forcing them to kiss the Israeli flag, and beating those who refuse to do so.
The number of deaths among prisoners has increased due to the authorities’ escalation of their violations against them, while medical reports have proven that some of them were subjected to severe violence, and others were subjected to deliberate medical neglect.
In addition to that; The occupation prison administration has deliberately caused a deterioration in the level of medical services received by Palestinian prisoners, as they were deprived of receiving medical treatment inside prison clinics, the possibility of leaving to receive medical treatment in hospitals was cancelled, the provision of medication was irregular, and there was no examination and medical follow-up by prison doctors.
The arrests and violations practiced by the occupation against prisoners require pressure from the international community and human rights organisations on the Israeli occupation authorities to ensure respect for human rights and put an end to these oppressive practices.
